Mah Wins All-Around In Stanford Open
BERKELEY – Aaron Mah tilled the land during No. 9 California's first visit to The Farm on Saturday night.
With a score of 80.350, the junior all-arounder notched his first meet victory at the Stanford Open, edging No. 5 Cardinal's Andrew Bittner 80.100 for the top spot.
"Aaron showed a lot of strength again this meet during the all-around," head coach
JT Okada said. "It wasn't his best, but to win the all-around shows the potential of him and honestly it shows the potential of this team."
While Mah collected an overall win, the Cal finished second to host-team and MPSF foe Stanford, which now leads the nation with a 414.100 score. The Bears outscored No. 15 Washington (368.300) with a season best score of 395.050.
"The team did a lot better and there were definite improvements made," Okada said. "To show that we can do this on the road is good a sign moving forward and to finish on pommel horse, which is not normal for us, we did fare well. This doesn't even show our full potential so that's exciting. We are all anxious to get back in the gym on Monday. We look forward to competing again in two weeks."
Senior
Yordan Aleksandrov also proved vital for Cal with an event win on the parallel bars scoring a 14.250.
The all-around competition was all favorable for freshman
Shane Sadighi, who finished in fourth with a score of 77.100, improving from his previous 75.250 in his collegiate debut.
Cal returns to Stanford on Feb. 10 for its next competition.
