BERKELEY. – California men's soccer continues to produce professional level talent.

Most recently, defender Josh Morton found a home with the United Soccer League's Tulsa Roughnecks to become the Golden Bears' 14th active pro player. Morton, who played with the Bears from 2014-17, was selected by the Chicago in the 2018 MLS Superdraft in the fourth round after his senior season. He did not sign with Chicago, which made him available to be picked up by the Roughnecks organization.

"Josh had a great four year career at Cal and was a starting player in our backfield from the moment he arrived," said Bears head coach Kevin Grimes. "He did a fantastic job at right back this past season and now can play comfortably there or at center back. Tulsa will love his versatility and competitiveness. We couldn't be happier for Josh and his achievement of playing professional soccer."

Morton started nearly every game during his collegiate career, making 63 starts in 65 appearances. The defender finished his career at Cal with two goals and three assists and earned an honorable mention to the All-Pac-12 list after his senior season.

Former Bear and teammate, Christian Thierjung also played with the Roughnecks during the 2017 season before joining the Reno 1868.
