Robert Briggs Signs National Letter Of Intent
BERKELEY – Cal announced the signing of Robert Briggs to a national letter of intent Friday. The current high school senior at Novato High School will arrive at Cal in August of 2016.
Briggs is a three-time first-team All-Marin County Athletic League selection and has been on the academic honor roll during each of his first six prep semesters. He has qualified for the North Coast Section Championship each of his first three high school seasons and tied for second at the MCAL Championship as a 2015 junior.
One of Briggs' top achievements as an amateur came as a ninth-grader in 2012 when he became the youngest player ever to win the AmateurGolf.com Tour Championship at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club. Briggs also has a pair of second-place amateur finishes to his credit, taking second at a Junior World Championship Qualifier at Haggin Oaks in 2013 and at the JTNC's event in Merced in 2014. He was also third at the 2014 AJGA Junior at Serrano and tied for 14th at the AJGA LA Open earlier this year.
“I am beyond excited to be able to join the University of California's men's golf team next fall and help contribute to the ultimate goal of winning a national championship,” Briggs said. “The combination of golf and incredible academics is a perfect fit for me, and I can't wait to get started playing for some of the best coaches in all of college golf.”
“We've kept an eye on Robert over the last two years,” head coach Steve Desimone said. “He works hard, likes to compete and shows a strong upside. We're glad to have him as a Golden Bear.”
