BERKELEY – Senior opposite hitter Lara Vukasovic registered 14 kills and four blocks and fellow senior Lillian Schonewise had seven kills and three blocks but the Cal volleyball team fell to Colorado, 27-25, 25-18, 25-21 on Saturday night in the final home match of the 2015 season at Haas Pavilion.

Junior middle blocker Jenelle Jordan added five kills and three blocks while sophomore Christine Alftin had five kills and 10 digs. Junior setter Alyssa Jensen had 27 assists.

The Bears honored Vukasovic, Schonewise, defensive specialist Mary McKennon and outside hitter Nikki Gombar in a special pre-match ceremony. Cal closes the season with road matches next week at No. 7 Stanford on Wednesday and No. 1 USC on Friday.

Cal (9-20, 3-15 Pac-12) fell behind 13-6 in the first set but then stormed back to take a 17-15 lead. Colorado went back in front and had set point at 24-21, but the Bears once again fought back and had set point themselves at 25-24 after a kill by Jordan. However, the Buffs then scored three in a row to close out the set.

The Bears fell behind again to start the second set, but a four-point run tied it up at 13-13 after a block by Schonewise and Vukasovic. But Colorado answered with a four-point run of its own and led comfortably the remainder of the set.

The script repeated itself once again in the third set, as Cal fell behind 13-9. The Bears persevered once again, coming back to take an 18-17 lead after a block by Jordan and freshman Belen Castillo. But the Buffs proceeded to score seven straight to get to set point at 24-18.

Once again, the Bears didn't go quietly. They scored three in a row, forcing a Colorado timeout after a kill by Vukasovic. The Buffs then finished it off after the timeout.
