BERKELEY – California junior Courtney Range is among the 50 women's basketball players earning early recognition on the Naismith Trophy Women's Watch List, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Wednesday.
The Naismith Trophy recognizes the top men's and women's basketball players of the year. The awards have become the most prestigious national honors in all of college basketball and are administered by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.
After averaging just 7 points per game in her first two seasons, Range's breakout junior campaign has seen her average 13.3 ppg and 6.4 rebounds per game. She led Cal to an upset of then-No. 8 Louisville with a double-double (19 points, 13 rebounds) in opening weekend on her way to her first career Pac-12 Player of the Week honor. The Manteca, Calif. product has scored in double figures in four of Cal's eight games this season.
Range is among the conference's top 20 for field goal percentage (No. 12) scoring (16) and rebounding (16).
