Statement Regarding Fresno State Game
BERKELEY - The University of California softball team and head coach Diane Ninemire were notified by the NCAA on Tuesday that the Bears would forfeit their game of March 6, 2016 against Fresno State for failing to complete the game due to travel concerns.
In addition, the NCAA informed the school that Ninemire will be suspended for the team's next two games, March 9 at Hawai'i and March 10 against North Dakota State. The Fresno State game will appear on the record as a 7-0 loss for the Bears but the statistics from the game will count.
Ninemire and California will abide by the NCAA's ruling. Associate head coach Tammy Lohmann will act as the Bears' head coach in both games and Ninemire will return to the bench on Friday when Cal faces Baylor in Hawai'i.
