SAN FRANCISCO – After a pair of dominant performances in the post, California junior Kristine Anigwe has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. Anigwe averaged 27 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while leading the Golden Bears (7-2, 0-0 Pac-12) to wins over San Diego and Pacific. Colorado rookie Annika Jank was selected as the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week.

This is the first Pac-12 Player of the Week honor for Anigwe this season and the second of her career. The 2016 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, Anigwe earned conference Freshman of the Week honors a record eight times during the 2015-16 season and was named the the Pac-12 Player of the Week on December 26, 2016 after putting together back-to-back 30-point, 15-rebound performances for the Golden Bears at the 2016 Puerto Rico Classic in Las Vegas.

A preseason candidate for the 2018 Wade Trophy, Anigwe is the second Cal player to earn conference weekly honors this season, joining freshman Kianna Smith, who was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week on November 27.

Putting together efficient and effective performances this week, Anigwe led the Bears to the weekend sweep against San Diego and Pacific. The Phoenix, Arizona-product is averaging nearly a point per minute as of late, scoring a total of 54 points in her last 60 minutes of action while shooting 66.7 percent (22-33) from the floor in her last two outings combined.

A unanimous Preseason All-Pac-12 selection, Anigwe scored 26 points on 11-14 shooting (78.6 pct) on Thursday against the Toreros, missing just one of her final 11 field goal attempts, including a streak of eight consecutive made field goals from midway through the first quarter to late in the third. On Sunday at Pacific, Anigwe tied her season-high with 28 points and added 18 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. After pulling down a career-high 25 rebounds on November 19 at Brown, Anigwe is now the only player in Division I basketball with multiple game of 18 or more rebounds this season.

A two-time honorable mention All-American, Anigwe currently leads the conference in scoring, averaging 18.7 points per game on the season, and is tied for first in the Pac-12 with 8.8 rebounds per game.

Anigwe and the Bears will return to action on Saturday, December 16, hosting BYU (4-5,0-0 WCC) at 5 p.m. PT. Cal's final home game in non-conference play,  this will be the fourth meeting all-time between the Cougars and Golden Bears and the first since a matchup in the quarterfinals of the 2010 WNIT. Saturday's game is the second leg in a double-header at Haas  Pavilion, with the Cal men's basketball team taking on Cal State Fullerton at 1 p.m. PT.
