TUCSON, Arizona – Coming off a thrilling come-from-behind win last weekend in Oregon, the Cal women's soccer team returns to the road to take on Arizona (8-4-1, 1-3-1 Pac-12) at 5:30 p.m. PT Saturday evening in Tucson. The Golden Bears earned their first Pac-12 victory of the year on Sunday, scoring twice in the final 20 minutes of the match to down the Oregon Ducks, 2-1.
Sophomore striker
Emma Westin tied the match with the Ducks in the 74
th minute with her team-leading fourth goal of the year, and redshirt junior
Anja Koehler provided the game winner less than five minutes, heading in a cross from Westin. Cal now looks to carry that momentum into Saturday's showdown with the Wildcats and make it back-to-back wins away from Berkeley.
"The positives from last week were that we did a very good job of keeping the ball and creating goal-scoring opportunities," said Cal head coach
Neil McGuire. "We have to continue to capitalize on that. Obviously Arizona are a fantastic team. [Arizona head coach Tony Amato] is a great coach and we know it's going to be a tough one, but we have to play our game."
The series between Cal and Arizona has been highly competitive as of late, with the last eight matches being decided by one goal or fewer. The Wildcats picked up a 1-0 win in Berkeley last season behind a 75
th-minute goal from Jada Talley Arizona has won the last three head-to-head meetings against Cal, including a 2-1 double-overtime win in 2016 when the sides last met in Tucson. The Golden Bears will be looking to snap a four-match winless streak against the Wildcats and earn their first road win in Tucson since a 1-0 overtime win in 2011.
Saturday's match against the Wildcats marks the third consecutive road game for McGuire's squad. The Golden Bears opened Pac-12 play with a three-game homestand before last weekend's road trip to the Beaver State. Cal is 2-3-0 away from Berkeley this season, with two of its three losses coming against Top-25 opponents.

LAST TIME OUT
An inspired second-half effort saw the Golden Bears score two goals in the span of five minutes on Sunday afternoon, sending the Cal women's soccer team back to Berkeley with a 2-1 win over Oregon.
Emma Westin tied the match in 74
th minute and redshirt junior
Anja Koehler provided the game-winner just minutes later to give the Golden Bears their first win of the conference campaign. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Bears, who handed the Ducks just their second home loss of the year.
After finding themselves on the wrong side of a 2-1 score line Thursday night against Oregon State, the Bears showed their resolve on Sunday, erasing a halftime deficit to earn the win over the Ducks.
"This entire weekend, our girls fought really hard," said McGuire after the match. "Oregon State and Oregon are two very good teams and our players responded with intensity and found a way to win, which we hadn't been able to do thus far in Pac-12 conference. I'm really happy for our players and really happy for the program."
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Arizona enters the weekend looking to snap a two-game losing streak. The Wildcats were swept by No. 2 UCLA and No. 13 UCLA last weekend on the road, falling to both Los Angeles schools by a score of 2-0. Arizona's most recent outing saw the Wildcats outshoot UCLA, 13-10, but a pair of second-half scores by the Bruins proved the difference in the match.Â
Arizona now returns to Tucson, looking to build on its homefield success. The Wildcats are 7-1-1 overall at home this season, including a 1-0-1 mark at Murphey Field in Pac-12 play. Arizona earned a 2-1 home win over Utah on September 27 before closing the weekend with a 1-1 double-overtime draw against No. 18 Colorado.
Sophomore forward Jada Talley leads the Wildcats and is tied for sixth in the Pac-12 this season with six goals on the year. Talley scored the lone goal in last year's 1-0 win over Cal and has appeared in all 13 matches for the Wildcats this season. Classmate Amanda Porter leads Arizona with five assists on the season, also ranking among the conference leaders in that category. As a team, Arizona is tied for fourth in the Pac-12 with 23 goals scored this season, but has found the back of the net just three times during conference play.
Defensively, the Wildcats are led by senior goalkeeper Lainey Burdett, who has played every minute in goal this season. Burdett boasts a .828 save percentage on the season and has posted five shutouts, tied for second in the conference.
Tony Amato is in his sixth season as head coach of the Wildcats, and helped his side to an overall record of 11-5-4 last season, reaching the Second Round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
NEXT UP
The Bears will return to Berkeley for a pair of matches at Edwards Stadium. Cal hosts No. 16 Colorado (11-0-3, 3-0-2 Pac-12) at Noon PT on Thursday, October 18, before closing out the weekend with a 12:30 p.m. matchup against Utah (6-6-1, 3-2-0 Pac-12) on Sunday, October 21. The Golden Bears beat both Mountain School opponents on the road last season, opening the trip with a 1-0 win over the Buffs before a 2-0 victory against the Utes.
