"Perfect day, great turnout," head coach Justin Wilcox said. "Having all the fans here that was really cool. And it's good for the players. The energy on the field, it feels different than practice. That natural little anxiety is good."
Pac-12 Networks televised the contest live and Pac-12 Bay Area will replay the game several times over the next few days with the first airing on Saturday night at 10 pm PT.
Marcel Dancy scored both the first and last touchdown of the day on a 16-yard reception from Devon Modster on the game's second drive and a three-yard run on the final possession. DeShawn Collins (2-yard run), Chase Garbers (4-yard run) and Jeremiah Hawkins (12-yard run) also each found the end zone.
Daniel Scott and Kuony Deng each had an interception, while Zeandae Johnson picked up 2.0 sacks and Deon White contributed 1.0 sack and a blocked field goal.
Alex Netherda led all rushers with 12 carries for 76 yards and had the game's longest play on a 29-yard carry. Robby Rowell (68 yards) and Garbers (60 yards) both completed 7-of-10 passes, while Modster was 6-of-7 for 27 yards and the touchdown. Jack Newman also got reps at quarterback and completed 3-of-5 passes for 22 yards with an interception. Nikko Remigio led 10 players with at least one reception with six for 38 yards.
White had a game-high seven tackles for the defense.
"Today was awesome, it was really cool," Deng said. "Even after the scrimmage, everybody came down. They all introduced themselves and just showed a lot of love. There's a lot of love in the community. They really care about us here. To meet people who have been here 50-plus years – and they want to know every single player – that's cool. I'm sure you don't get that everywhere. This is definitely a special place for a lot of reasons."
