SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California track & field claimed seven wins and 24 top-three finishes as they competed at the Hornet Invitational on Saturday. The Bears traveled north to Hornet Stadium to compete at the site of the NCAA West Regional Meet later this year. After opening their outdoor season two weeks ago at the California Outdoor Opener, the Bears returned to competition this weekend looking to better their marks.

Cal's 4x100m relay team of Deshae Wise, Zion Corrales Nelson, Maisie Stevens and Jackie Patterson of recorded the fifth-fastest 4x100m time in school history. They quartet ran 44.67 to win Saturday's race by close to a full second. The foursome ran 45.37 in their season opener at the Cal Outdoor Opener, which was the fastest time by a Cal 4x100m team in five years. Those Bears weren't done as Wise won the 100m hurdles for the second consecutive meet as she finished in 13.80. Patterson claimed the 100m with a wind-aided mark of 11.74.

The Cal throws squad put on a highlight performance as Joshua Johnson took first in the shot put with a mark of 18.23m/59-9.75. He was followed by Iffy Joyner who claimed second with a throw 17.74m/58-2.50. In the discus competition, Joyner took fourth while Malik McMorris finished in fifth place.

Paramveer Chohan ran 51.08 in the men's 400m hurdles to earn the win for the Bears. Connor Meech took third with a time of 55.26, but it was Chohan's time that caught the eye as he just missed his personal best and earned the win.

Mina Anglero and Annie Boos took the first two spots in the women's 1500m. The freshman Anglero ran 4:25.86 while Boos crossed the line 4:26.64. Anglero came back later in the day and took second place in the 800m as she ran 2:09.89.

Hakim McMorris won the first decathlon competition of his career as he claimed seven of the 10 events and put together a total of 7159 points. McMorris won the first five events on Friday, taking victories in the 100m, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400m. McMorris started the second day with victories in the 110m hurdles and the discus. McMorris took third in pole vault, fifth in the javelin and second in the 1500m in the final three events. However, he won the competition by 933 points.

Chrissy Glasmann recorded a mark of 47.96m/157-4 in the javelin as she took third place. Glasmann's mark, while not a personal record, was better than any mark in Cal history outside of Glasmann's school record which was set at the Pac-12/Big 10 Challenge last year.

Cal did not compete a full squad, electing to rest their NCAA participants who competed last weekend. The women's squad finished in second place as a team by tallying 138 points. The men's team finished with 166 points and took second place, two points behind Sacramento State.

The Bears will be off next week before they split the squad and head to the Stanford Invitational and the San Francisco State Distance Carnival on March 29-30.
