BERKELEY – California men's tennis posted a pair of 4-0 victories on Sunday, as the 43rd-ranked Golden Bears defeated Nevada and then Saint Mary's under a partly cloudy sky at the Hellman Tennis Complex. The two most experienced Bears clinched the wins, with junior Dominic Barretto securing the first result of the day against the Wolf Pack and junior Bjorn Hoffmann wrapping up the afternoon match against the Gaels.
 
Cal improved to 9-7, while Nevada fell to 6-6 and Saint Mary's dropped to 3-11.
 
With the second match looming later in the day, the Bears made quick work of Nevada.
 
Barretto teamed with Hoffmann to clinch the doubles point against the Wolf Pack, as the two Bears defeated Dylan Levitt and Benjamin Campi, 6-3, on court three. Earlier, Cal's 79th-ranked duo of Can Kaya and Paul Barretto claimed a 6-2 win over Julien Evrard and Kostya Nesterenko on court one.
 
In singles, Cal's Ben Draper knocked off Jonathan Aremon, 6-3, 6-3, on court four, fellow sophomore Jack Molloy beat Evrard, 6-3, 6-2, on court one and then Dominic Barretto clinched with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Gvidas Motuzas on court six.
 
Against the Gaels, the Bears again clinched the doubles point on court three. But this time it was Cal sophomores Ben Draper and Thomas Wright winning, 6-2, over Jackson Hawk and Brian Lee to give Cal a 1-0 lead. The pair of Kaya and Paul Barretto won again on court one, beating Matis Bot and Abhishek Bastola, 6-2.
 
Molloy earned his second singles win of the day in beating James Watt, 6-0, 6-2, to double Cal's lead, and then Dominic Barretto likewise won for the second time in singles, defeating the Gaels' Boris Reckow, 6-1, 6-2, to make the score 3-0. Hoffmann soon ended Cal's long day with a 7-5, 6-1 triumph over Bot on court three.
 
"We needed those two matches to help us prepare for next weekend's matches with USC and UCLA," said Peter Wright, Cal's Director of Men's Tennis. "We played with purpose and we played efficiently today in both singles and doubles. Doubleheaders are physically and mentally difficult, and our team rose to the challenge.
 
"We have some exciting matches on the horizon, and I feel our team is in a good place as we look to the future."
 
The Bears return to their Pac-12 Conference schedule when they host No. 11 USC on Friday and No. 13 UCLA on Saturday at Hellman.
