AUSTIN, Texas – Senior Andrew Seliskar waited nearly four years to earn his first individual NCAA title, winning the 200-yard individual medley Thursday night.

It took him one more day to claim a second crown.

On Friday night at the NCAA Championships, Seliskar used a strong third 50 – his 22.85 leg was the quickest in the field by half a second – and reached the final wall in 1:30.14. The time matched his own school record in the event and sent him to the top of the podium for the second time at the meet.

Overall, Cal increased its hold on first place in the team standings, now with 372 points. Texas is second with 329 and Indiana third with 277.5

The 400 individual medley opened the session, featuring a trio of Golden Bears in the final, and they did not disappoint, as all three posted top 5 times in school history. Sean Grieshop led the group by taking second in the race in 3:37.02, while Mike Thomas was third in 3:37.52 and Trenton Julian fifth in 3:39.83. Together, they combined for 47 important points towards the team total.

Cal also had three scorers in the 100 butterfly and were paced by Zheng Wen Quah, whose 45.06 time – which put him in sixth place – tied his personal best. Ryan Hoffer took seventh in 45.14 and Pawel Sendyk swam a PR 45.30 for the 10th spot.

Freshman Reece Whitley moved up to No. 3 all-time in Cal history with a 51.11 in the 100 breaststroke, which was good for fourth place, while in 3-meter diving, Connor Callahan finished 36th with a score of 296.65.

Daniel Carr was the beneficiary of an error in morning qualifying in the 100 backstroke, and he took full advantage of the opportunity. During his heat, the wedge used to support swimmers at the start, was not removed by an official during his race, as is custom. Carr finished in 45.45, which would not have advanced him to the night session. Given a second chance to post a qualifying time during a solo re-swim, he produced a PR time of 44.86, which moved him all the way to the fourth seed. In the final, Carr went 45.21 and captured seventh place.

Cal closed out the night with a runner-up finish in the 200 medley relay, as Daniel Carr, Reece Whitley, Pawel Sendyk and Ryan Hoffer posted a time of 1:22.43, the fourth-fastest in school history and a mere 0.17 seconds behind Alabama. The result marked Cal's fourth second-place result to go with four titles during the first three days of the meet.

The NCAA Championships conclude on Saturday with seven more events. Morning heats begin at 8 a.m. PT will be streamed through texassports.com, with the finals starting at 4 p.m. PT and airing online on espn3.com.
