LOS ANGELES – California lost 6-1 for the second consecutive day in Los Angeles, as the No. 14/15 Golden Bears fell to 10th/11th-ranked UCLA on Saturday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins clinched when their Abi Altick beat Cal sophomore Hana Mraz, 6-4, 6-3, at court-five singles.

One highlight of the day for the Bears happened on court six, with Alexis Nelson beating the Bruins' Taylor Johnson, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

Cal – which also lost 6-1 at USC on Friday – has a 9-5 record (3-2 in the Pac-12) after the conference match. UCLA is 12-4 (4-1 Pac-12).

The Bruins clinched the doubles point when the 22nd-ranked pair of Elysia Bolton and Jada Hart topped Cal's 23rd-ranked duo of Anna Bright and Jasie Dunk, 6-1, on court two.

In singles, the only other Bear besides Nelson to win a set was the 30th-ranked Julia Rosenqvist, whose 6-2, 6-7(5), 1-0(8) loss to the 56th-ranked Hart ended the match.

"This is the first couple of days in a row where we haven't come out in doubles like we needed to," Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said. "We usually have a good rhythm with doubles heading into singles. Today we didn't come out with enough aggressiveness, especially in the service game. But whether we win or lose the doubles point, we have to be ready to adjust right away and not start slowly in singles.

"Alexis winning in singles and Julia – who had a really good match with Jada – were a couple of bright spots today. This is a good opportunity for us to regroup and work on a few things and really be ready to go. We have quite a few matches left. Hopefully we get a chance to see these teams (UCLA and USC) again, whether it's in the Pac-12 tournament or at NCAAs."

The Bears next host Washington on April 5 and Washington State on April 6 at the Hellman Tennis Complex.
