Cal Travels To Napa For Silverado Showdown

BERKELEY – Cal women's golf will return to stroke play as they compete in the Silverado Showdown at Silverado Resort & Spa in Napa, California.
 
This will be the final regular season tournament of the year. The Bears will begin at 7:45 a.m. with tee times on both Sunday and Monday. Tuesday's action will start at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. Cal will take on a challenging field that includes three top-10 opponents and eight top-30 opponents.
 
Oregon and Colorado will be co-hosting the tournament. The field will also include, Colorado State, Iowa State, Northwestern, New Mexico, Pepperdine, San Diego State, San Francisco, San Jose State, USC, Stanford, UCLA, UNLV, Washington, Washington State and Wisconsin.
 
The Bears are coming off a second-place appearance at the Lamkin Invitational as the team navigated a difficult match play field to qualify for the final. The Bears defeated San Jose State and San Diego State before falling to no. 6 Vanderbilt in the final. That marked the Cal's third straight second place finish and their fifth top-two finish in nine competitions this year.
 
Cal has also recorded second place finishes at both the Gunrock Classic and the Juli Inkster Invitational at Meadow Club during this spring season. The Bears also took second at last year's Silverado Showdown as they leaped three teams on the final day. Marianne Li finished in a tie for 15th as three Bears finished in the top-20.
 
The Bears have been led by senior Cindy Oh this year. Oh is currently on pace to have the lowest scoring season average in Cal history as she currently sports an average of 72.5. She has played par or under golf in 10 of her 21 rounds this season.
 
Katherine Zhu has also had one of the best freshman seasons in school history as she is currently on pace for the Cal freshman record and one of the five-best scoring averages in school history. Zhu is shooting 73.1 across 22 rounds this year and has nine rounds at or below par.
