NAPA, Calif. – After a tough first two days of competition, the Cal women's golf team rebounded with the best score of the day to climb six spots on the leaderboard and finish seventh in a stacked field at the Silverado Showdown.

The 18-team tournament, featured 11 teams ranked in the top 45 and the Bears produced the best score on the final day of the tournament as they shot a 6-under 282. They were one of just two schools to shoot under par on the final day at Silverado Resort & Spa.

"A seventh place finish here is very notable, I was really encouraged by how we came together to make it happen," head coach Nancy McDaniel said. We made some adjustments from the first two days, however it's one thing to have a good plan and it's another to execute it. We really executed it well today."

Only 15 players posted rounds of par or under during Tuesday's competition and four of them were Bears. Cal climbed past Wisconsin, Iowa State, San Diego State, UCLA, Pepperdine and Colorado on the final day, finishing 14 shots clear of the closest one of those teams.

Katherine Zhu was able to lead the way for the entire tournament and the freshman saved her best golf for the final round. Zhu shot 2-under 70 to finish in a tie for ninth. Zhu was 4-over for the tournament after recording four birdies on the final day.

Maria Herraez Galvez was dynamite on the course's front nine. After starting on the 13th hole, the junior made the turn and fired off three birdies in a five-hole stretch which helped her finish 1-under 71 on the day and in a tie for 19th place.

"Maria was fighting a couple of small injuries throughout the tournament," McDaniel said. "She played one shot at a time and put the effort out there for her team which is something I always appreciate about her."

After her worst round of the season in the second round, things were much different for Cindy Oh during the tournament's final day as she even flipped in a ball backwards. Things were clicking for the senior as she hit five birdies and tied for the third lowest round recorded at any point this week with a 3-under 69. Oh finished in a tie for 29th place.

Marianne Li shot an even 72 on Tuesday as she notched three birdies over her final seven holes to close the tournament strong. Li turned things around after a double bogey on the six. Over the next five holes she hit three birdies and finished in a tie for 56th. Amina Wolf finished the tournament in a tie for 46th as she shot a 3-over 75 on the final day of action. Wolf carded three birdies.

"It is always difficult to start the tournament like we did, but we stuck with it and showed great resilience today," McDaniel said. "It couldn't come at a better time for us, this will put us in a good frame of mind heading into the Pac-12 Championship next week."

The conference championship event will begin on Monday, April 15 at Palos Verdes Golf Club. The three-day tournament will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network on the final day of competition from Palos Verdes, California.
