BERKELEY – Adrienne Martelli, a two-time Olympian who spent the past three years on the staff at Northeastern, has been hired as an assistant coach for the Cal women's rowing team, head coach Al Acosta announced.

Martelli earned her degree in biology from the University of Washington in 2010 and went on to a decorated career with the U.S. National Team. She captured the bronze medal in the quadruple sculls at the 2012 Summer Olympics and made a repeat appearance at the Olympic Games in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She is also a four-time medalist at the World Rowing Championships, competing in both the four and quad sculls

"We are thrilled to add Adrienne to our staff," Acosta said. "Adrienne brings some impressive accomplishments to Cal. She is a great person and will be able to connect with our student-athletes on many levels. Whether they are a walk-on, potential Olympian or even a biology student, Adrienne has lived it and will help point our team in the right direction."

Martelli began her coaching career with the Princeton National Rowing Association before moving on to Northeastern, where she helped guide the Huskies to three consecutive Colonial Athletic Association championships and three straight NCAA Championship appearances

Martelli started her rowing career as a walk-on at Washington and eventually became a first-team All-American and led UW to the 2009 national championship.
