Road Swing Continues At Colorado
Golden Bears Bested Buffs In First Meeting Of Season
BERKELEY – California's three-game road swing continues against the Buffaloes in Boulder, Colorado on Thursday night. Tipoff from the CU Events Center is slated for 7 p.m. PST on the Pac-12 Network.
Â
A win on Thursday would mark the first time the Golden Bears (3-18, 2-8 Pac-12) have won back-to-back games against Colorado since Feb. 12, 2015 and Jan. 1, 2016. Cal capped the 2022 calendar year with an 80-76 victory over the Buffs (12-11, 4-8) on Dec. 31 in Berkeley, but enters the rematch on a five-game losing streak that dates back to Jan. 11.
Â
Colorado has lost five of its past six games, including suffering a sweep on the road at Oregon and Oregon State last week.
Â
Ted Robinson and Mike Montgomery have the call for the Pac-12 Network.

Freshman Grant Newell also recorded his first career double-double in the win with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
- Cal led by as many as 21 points in the Colorado win before the Buffs made 12 of their last 16 field goals in a 4.5-minute span to tighten the contest. The Bears clamped down defensively for the majority of the game, limiting Colorado to 36% (19-of-50) shooting for nearly the first 36 minutes.
- Leading scorer Devin Askew (15.5 PPG) missed his eighth of the past 12 games on Jan. 28 at Stanford. He tallied eight points and tied a career-high seven assists in his only game played in the 2023 calendar year on Jan. 22 against Oregon State.
- Sophomore forward Sam Alajiki recorded his first career double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds on Jan. 28 at Stanford. Alajiki, Newell (2) and Lars Thiemann have recorded four total double-doubles for the Bears this season.
- The freshman duo of Newell and ND Okafor have seen valuable minutes translate into growth this season. Newell is averaging 7.9 PPG and 3.8 RPG while starting 19 of Cal's 21 games and Okafor is shooting 60% (21-of-35) from the floor in his past 10 games played.
- Senior forward Kuany Kuany has shot 50% (31-of-62) on the way to averaging 11.1 PPG in the past nine games since Dec. 21. He scored in double figures in five of those contests, including a career-high 18 points against Stanford on Jan. 6 in Berkeley.
