BERKELEY – California rugby has announced its full 2024 spring XVs slate, including four contests to be hosted at Witter Rugby Field. This marks the program's 142nd year, making it the oldest Intercollegiate Athletics sport on Berkeley's campus. Head coach Jack Clark will be at the helm for his 41st year while associate head coach Tom Billups reaches his milestone 25th year of service to the Golden Bears.  
 
Cal will once again open the new year at the Dennis Storer Classic hosted by UCLA on Jan. 13-14. The Bears went undefeated at last year's tournament, ending the weekend with a 3-0 record and a clean sheet against all three opponents.
 
Cal will host its home opener in Berkeley on Jan. 20 with a contest against UC Santa Barbara. The team will then travel down to Southern California once more for a matchup with UCLA in Los Angeles on Feb. 3 before returning to its home field for a match against BYU on Feb. 10.
 
The Bears will then embark upon a four-game road swing, beginning with a trip to Arizona to face two opponents over the President's Day holiday weekend. Cal will first take on the Arizona Wildcats on Feb. 17 in Tucson before heading to Phoenix for a match against Grand Canyon on Feb. 19. The Bears will travel to Utah for their next stop on the away series to take on the Utes in a Friday matchup on Feb. 23.
 
Finally, Cal will make its way to the East Coast for a contest with Army on March 2. This will be the first time Cal has visited West Point, New York, since the 2016 Varsity Cup National Quarterfinals, in which the Bears defeated the Black Knights 41-29 en route to winning the program's 23rd championship title in XVs.
 
Following their month-long road swing, the Bears will then return home to host a doubleheader on March 16. Cal will face reigning national champion Navy in addition to Sacramento State. The order of contests that day is yet to be determined.
 
In the final fixture of the regular season, the Bears will travel to Moraga for a matchup with the Saint Mary's Gaels on March 23. D1A Postseason competition is scheduled to begin on April 6 and will culminate with the title match in Houston on May 4.
 
"Contesting regular-season matches with a handful of the best teams in the country is our plan," Clark said. "Similar to all the top teams, we are attempting to build a team for the postseason."
