No. 6 Bears Sweep Events At Minnesota Invitational
Cal Records Some Of Nation's Best Times This Season
MINNEAPOLIS – Sophomore
Yamato Okadome registered the second-fastest time in program history in the 100-yard breaststroke to lead a big night for the No. 6 California men's water polo team at the Minnesota Invitational on Friday.
Okadome's mark of 50.48 bettered his previous No. 2 mark on Cal's all-time list of 50.62. It's also the third-best time in the event in the country this season.
Okadome's win was part of a sweep of all events for the Golden Bears on Friday. Cal took the top four spots in the 100 breast.
Senior
Evan Petty won the 100 backstroke with a time of 44.83, which ranks sixth all-time at Cal and is the ninth-fastest mark in the country this season. Freshman Casper Puggard was second at 46.00.
The Bears also took the top four spots in the 400 individual medley, with junior
Humberto Najera winning in a time 3:41.59. Cal went 1-2 in the 200 freestyle – with junior
Keaton Jones winning in 1:33.62 – and the 100 butterfly, with sophomore
Lucca Battaglini prevailing in 45.43.
Friday evening's finals session started strongly for the Bears, as the 200 medley relay team of Battaglini, Okadome, Puggard and sophomore
Nans Mazellier recorded a time of 1:22.33 – the sixth-fastest mark in the country this season and the seventh-fastest all-time at Cal.
Junior
Jack Clark placed second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 342.15 – the fourth-best mark in Cal history.
