BERKELEY – Head coach Sonny Dykes announced Friday that DT Chris Palmer (Lawrenceville, GA/Naval Academy Preparatory School/Collins Hill HS) has signed a financial aid agreement with Cal and been added to the school’s 23-player 2014 recruiting class.
Palmer was a starter on the defensive line for each of his final two campaigns in 2011 and 2012 at Collins Hill High School in the Atlanta area. Palmer earned preseason All-State honors prior to his senior season and played in the Rivalries of Gwinnett All-Star Football Game following the campaign. He was a second-team All-Region selection in 2011. Palmer spent the 2013 season at the Naval Academy Preparatory School.
“We are excited to have Chris as part of the Cal football program,” Dykes said. “He’s a good fit for us both academically and athletically. On the field, he will give us some size inside. We were fortunate to find him.”
Cal’s 23-player class includes 13 defensive players and 10 on the offensive side of the ball, with 15 players from California, two from both Arizona and Texas, and one each from Georgia, Mississippi, Pennsylvania and Washington.
