BERKELEY, Calif. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America and the California Golden Bears announced today that junior defender Nick Lima, sophomore midfielder Jose Carrera-Garcia and junior forward Christian Thierjung have been named to the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Men's All-Far West Region Teams. Lima earned first team honors, while Carrera-Garcia and Thierjung were each selected to the second team.

“Nick, Christian and Jose all had excellent seasons,” head coach Kevin Grimes said on Wednesday. “Our team made a great run at the end of the season and these three players played a key role in that effort.”

Lima, also a first team All-Pac-12 performer this year, was an anchor in the Bears' defense, while also providing a ton of offensive punch from his outside back position. He started all 17 of Cal's matches, posted two goals and four assists out of the back and was instrumental in Cal's four shutouts during the 2015 season. Lima posted a match-winner at Oregon State on Nov. 1, blasting a shot from distance past the diving Beavers' goalkeeper, the first game-winning goal of his career.

Carrera-Garcia, had a fantastic campaign for the Golden Bears in central midfield, finishing the year with career bests in goals (five) and assists (10, which ranked second in the Pac-12) in 17 appearances, all starts. He was a second team All-Pac-12 selection and tallied one game-winning goal, when he scored via a beautiful chip over the UCLA goalkeeper in a 4-3 win over the Bruins on Oct. 25 in Berkeley. The Ontario, California, native was named Pac-12 Player of the Week on Sept. 22, following his spectacular performances in wins over Davidson and San Francisco, where he had a hand in five Cal goals with a goal and four assists.

Thierjung, the team's leading goal scorer and an All-Pac-12 first team selection, posted nine goals (four of which were game-winners) and also added four assists in 17 appearances to tie for third in the Pac-12 in both goals and points (22). The Dove Canyon, California, native was named the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) National Player of the Week on Oct. 27, as well as the Pac-12 Player of the Week after posting three goals and one assist in a pair of wins over San Diego State and UCLA, both 4-3 wins for the Bears. Thierjung was an All-Pac-12 honorable mention last season as well.
