Cal And Stanford Renew Rivalry On Saturday
The Bears Travel South For The 125th Annual Big Meet
BERKELEY – Cal and Stanford will renew the second-oldest rivalry in collegiate track & field on Saturday as the two Bay Area schools meet for the 125th annual Big Meet at Cobb Track & Angell Field on Stanford's campus.
Last year both Stanford's men's and women's teams came out victorious in Berkeley, but Cal looks to reclaim the titles on the road. Last year's edition also saw five meet records fall. Cal holds a 70-52-2 advantage over Stanford on the men's side of competition, the teams have split the past four years. On the women's side, Stanford is riding a four-meet winning streak and leads the all-time series 27-12.
The Big Meet marks Cal's fourth week of outdoor competition. The meet will feature 38 events with field events beginning at 2:30 p.m. with the women's javelin and track events starting at 3:45 p.m. with the women's 3000m steeplechase.
Camryn Rogers didn't waste time in her first outdoor competition of the season as she reset the school record in the hammer throw with a mark of 216-2. In last year's Big Meet, Rogers set the school record for the first time, she also set a Big Meet record while walking away with the victory.
Deshae Wise was another first-place finisher in last year's meet, claiming the 100m hurdles event with a season-best time. Wise recently posted a new PR of 13.59 at the Stanford Invitational last weekend; with her time she moved up to fourth all-time in school history.
This past weekend,
Paramveer Chohan notched his season-best time in the 400m hurdles with a time of 50.63, winning the event at the Stanford Invitational. Chohan is a proven versatile athlete — competing in four events in the 2018 Big Meet, also winning the 400m hurdles.
Chohan was the anchor leg of the men's 4x100 relay last weekend, which competed together for the first time this season; the squad included
Diab Davis,
Jasher Foster, Brandon Marion, and Chohan. Foster also claimed fourth behind Chohan in the 400m hurdles, posting a season best time of 51.62.
