BERKELEY – Cal wide receiver Demetris Robertson was named Sunday to USA Today's Freshman All-American team. Robertson is Cal's first freshman All-American since Keenan Allen was a fourth-team selection in 2010 and the first to earn first-team honors All-Freshman honors since DeSean Jackson in 2005.

"It is an honor to be recognized as one of the top college football freshmen in the country," Robertson said. "I want to thank God, my teammates and coaches for pushing me to be better every day, and I hope to accomplish an even bigger honor in the near future."

Robertson co-leads all freshmen nationally and paces Pac-12 rookies with his seven touchdown receptions, while he is also the Pac-12 leader and third among rookies nationally in receiving yards (767) and receiving yards per game (63.9). He is also second in the conference and sixth nationally among freshmen in receptions (50) while his five receptions of 50 or more yards rank tied for fifth among all players in the country.

"Demetris Robertson was certainly one of the nation's best freshmen this season and he has just begun to scratch the surface of his talent," head coach Sonny Dykes said. "He has an incredibly high ceiling and is a dedicated student-athlete who will put in the work to reach his full potential. Demetris has an incredibly bright future."

Robertson broke Cal single-season freshman records by current NFL players Allen (receptions) and Jackson (receiving yards) while also equaling Jackson's Cal freshman mark for touchdown receptions. Robertson played in all 12 games with his 11 starts the most by any Cal receiver and his 15.3 yards per reception were the highest on the club.
