Mah Takes All-Around, Cal Finishes Second
STANFORD – In the second consecutive outing at The Farm, No.12 California's
Aaron Mah recorded his second all-around meet title of the season with an 80.850 score, while the Golden Bears collectively delivered a season best effort 395.150 in the Pac-12 Invitational at Stanford on Saturday. The junior earned his first meet win at Burnham Pavilion two weeks ago.
Cal's second-place team finish was also highlighted by event wins in the rings (13.850) and high bar (13.700) by senior
Yordan Aleksandrov. The Bears posted the top three scores in the high bar with Mah recording a 13.400 as the runner-up and
Nathaniel Ramil finishing third with a score of 13.250.
The Bears were edged by No. 2 Cardinal who finished with a 403.600, but outscored No. 13 Arizona State (385.000) and No. 15 Washington (369.800).
"It was a great fight, start to finish, tonight by the Bears. We need to get back in the gym and establish a rhythm as we enter the second half of the season and the five-up, five count competition format," said head coach
JT Okada. "I'm proud of the work we've put in so far but there's no time to take the foot off the gas."
Cal's scored has improved over each week of competition as the Bears continue on the road for the next three outings before hosting. Cal will head to Stanford for the International Collegiate Challenge on March 3 at 4 p.m., its final time of the season.
