Cal-Stanford Postgame Quotes
Opening Statement:
"I'm really happy with our guys' effort tonight. I felt like from start to finish they gave us tremendous effort, played with a lot of energy and passion, especially on the defensive end, which is always important. We fought, we fought, we fought. (Stanford) is a talented basketball team. They're big. They're experienced. I thought our guys did a good job of following the game plan, which was to try to drive them, get in the lane and make things happen and be aggressive defensively. I am happy with our effort tonight. For 40 minutes, I felt like we gave everything that we had, so I'm happy."
Â
On effort increasing when Don Coleman and Nick Hamilton entered in the first half:
"I thought that was great. That's pretty much how we've wanted to play all year, to be able to speed teams up and make them uncomfortable. When those guys went in the game it instantly gave us a ton of energy. When you turn people over, it makes it a lot easier to score. It was good to see that and feel that in the building. I feel like the fans saw a really good game today from an effort standpoint."
Â
On team's free throw shooting:
"That was a result of Marcus (Lee) and King (
Kingsley Okoroh) really doing a good job of getting on the offensive glass. Especially Marcus, he ended up with five offensive rebounds and of the five, four probably resulted in him getting to the free throw line and getting fouled. It keeps those guys motivated to stay on the o-glass, knowing that even if we don't run a play for them, if they stay on the o-glass they can still benefit."
Â
Â
On his confidence level and development of his game:
"My confidence is just going up every game. My teammates, they are all encouraging. Coach Wyking tells me to just tuck the ball, go to the basket and try to punch on somebody. That coming from him, just helps me come out and play the game how I want to play."
Â
California Junior Guard Don Coleman
Â
On energy on defense:
"Like coach said, that's what we've been trying to do from the beginning of the year. I think now we are catching on and we're beginning to love it more and more. We're getting more in shape every day. We practice hard in practice and it worked out in the game, except we didn't come up with the win. It was a good team effort because we're growing."
Â
Â
On what his mentality was coming off the bench:
"I'm trying to spark some energy coming off the bench. I know I've got to give the team some scoring, some defense and some energy, so that's just what I am trying to do, to be honest."
