Cal Rattles Cleveland State In Quick Game
FRESNO – With an early start on the day, the 17th-ranked California (21-3) wasted no time in showing its offensive talent as the Bears blazed through a morning contest against Cleveland State (8-9) to pull in a 10-1 victory and end things in just five innings.
It was another shared effort, with eight different Golden Bears scoring runs in a one-sided showing that began in the opening frame. The designated visiting team, Cal's
Lindsay Rood,
Kobie Pettis,
Mikayla Coelho,
Cameron Kondo,
Karlee Sparacino and
Marcella Kay found the plate in the top of the first to jump to a substantial 6-0 lead.
The group was brought home off the bats of Coelho, Kondo, who tacked on two RBIs, Sparacino and Kay who also notched two runs batted in on her second homer of the weekend.
The onslaught continued in the top of the second as the Bears scored another four runs to insure an early finish. This time, runs from
Jazmyn Jackson and
Bradie Fillmore were punctuated by a two-run dinger from the freshman Sparacino.
Kamalani Dung notched her 12th win of the season after throwing a handful of strikeouts in the circle and remains undefeated.
The run cushion gave the Bears ample space to tamper with the lineup and allowed for senior
Kristin Cullen to make a rare appearance into the circle. While it took a moment to settle in after giving up a home run to the Vikings' lead off in bottom of the fifth, she closed the game with confidence and the Bears picked up their second run-rule of the weekend and seventh of the season.
Cal will close the doubleheader in a faceoff with host-team Fresno State at 2 p.m. with live stats available via SideArm and paid streaming on FloSoftball.
