Divers Look To Qualify For NCAA Meet
Five Golden Bear divers will attempt to qualify for the NCAA Championships when they head to Flagstaff, Arizona, for the Zone E Championships Monday-Wednesday.
Â
Junior
Phoebe LaMay earned a berth at the national meet last year, and she'll be vying for a repeat invitation. Others who are competing are junior
Alexa Cacao, and freshmen
Briana Thai,
Kathleen Navas and
Jackie Im.
Â
LaMay leads the Bears on both 1-meter and 3-meter after setting school records on the two springboards last season. She went on to place 19th on 1-meter and 39th on 3-meter at the 2017 NCAA Championships.
Â
Thai was named the Pac-12 Diver of the Week following Cal's dual meets at USC and UCLA this past January. Her tops scores from this year place her third all-time at Cal on 1-meter and platform and fifth on 3-meter. In addition, Im (9th) and Cacao (10th) are in the school's top 10 on 1-meter, with Navas coming in seventh all-time on platform.
Â
At the Pac-12 Championships last month, LaMay led the Bears on 1-meter (6th) and platform (12th), while Thai was Cal's top finisher on 3-meter (9th).
Â
The top nine finishers at the zone meet on 1-meter and 3-meter, as well as the top eight on platform, will advance to NCAAs, which are scheduled for March 14-17 in Columbus, Ohio.
