No. 20 Cal Wins Quad Meet With 196.650

SACRAMENTO – California took the victory over three foes, scoring a 196.650 to lead No. 22 Minnesota, Sacramento State and Alaska in Friday night's quad meet at the Hornet's Nest in Sacramento.
 
The Golden Gophers were second with a 196.475, Sacramento State wne 195.175 and Alaska scored a 191.925.
 
Kyana George took second in the all-around with a 49.350, and the Bears took home five event titles. Toni-Ann Williams earned a team-high two titles, winning floor and sharing the vault title with teammates Alicia Gallarzo and Arianna Robinson. Pac-12 Specialist of the Week Sofie Seilnacht turned in another career-high performance, going 9.95 on beam for her third title in two weeks.
 
The Bears started the meet off on floor, where Sofie Seilnacht set the tone with a 9.775 in the leadoff spot and the Bears continued to build from there. Gallarzo made her third floor appearance of the season, matching her career-high 9.875. In the anchor spot, Williams scored a team-high 9.925 to win the event. Cal's 49.250 was its third-highest total on the event all season.
 
Cal continued with another six-for-six set on vault as a trio of Golden Bears scored 9.85s – Gallarzo, Robinson and Williams, who all shared first on the event. The Bears, who are ranked 10th on the country on vault, tallied a 49.150.
 
Though Cal encountered a fall on bars, the rest of the lineup turned in strong routines as every other gymnast scored a 9.80 or higher. Seilnacht's 9.875 led the lineup, and freshman George continued her consistent season on the apparatus with her third 9.85 in four meets. A Golden Bear debut by Emi Watterson, who joined Cal in Dec. 2017, also highlighted the event.
 
Minnesota scored a meet-high 49.450 in the final rotation, but Cal clinched with quad meet win with a solid showing on the balance beam despite a few changes to the team's regular lineup. George put up a 9.875, second only to Seilnacht's career-high 9.95. She won the beam title for the second week in a row.
 
Cal will bookend its final weekend of the regular season with a dual meet at UC Davis, set for Sunday at 2 p.m. in Davis, Calif.
