Cal Visits UC Davis for Midweek Romp

BERKELEYCalifornia returns to the road this week after a momentum changing series sweep of Utah over the weekend.

Fortunately, the trips will only take the Golden Bears a short distance as they head to UC Davis to close out their two-game non-conference matchup before heading to Stanford for the weekend. Wednesday's contest with the Aggies is slated for a 4 p.m. (PT) start with live stats available on CalBears.com.

Earlier in the season Cal edged UCD 1-0 in Berkeley, but it hopes to open things up a bit more this week.

After a strong performance from pitching duo Kamalani Dung (17-3, 2.03) and Zoe Conley (12-10, 2.27) in the circle over the weekend where Dung picked up a pair of Pac-12 wins and Conley picked up her first league win, along with two saves, the Bears' defensive gatekeepers will be the impetus to a quick game.

The Bears will look for their 14th shutout and eighth run-rule showing as they work to start a four-contest week with an early finish behind potent office led by senior Jazmyn Jackson who is batting .366 on the season and has 29 runs, 53 hits and 24 RBI to add to the ledger.

Lindsay Rood (.338), who leads the Bears with 39 runs, has also been masterful around the bases as she tops the conference with 23 steals on the season.

Scouting UC Davis
The Aggies (24-17, 6-6 Big West) are also coming off a series win against Big West conference foe UC Riverside picking up 2-of-3 games in the matchup. The Aggies lost the final game of the series 3-2 and look to recover against the Bears before finishing out their conference slate. Freshman Alyse Rojas has made an immediate impact, leading the team at the plate with a .384 clip and has recorded 18 runs, 53 hits and 17 RBI on the season. Utility player and sophomore Isabella Leon backs the effort of Rojas with a .325 batting average, 19 runs, 40 hits, and 18 RBI. The Bears will likely see Brooke Yanez in the circle as she leads the Aggies with a 1.43 ERA and holds a 13-8 record in her freshman campaign.

Historically, the game bends in the Bears favor but with just a one-run differential this season, Cal will have to insure things with a well-balanced display.
