BEARS AND THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Bears are making their second consecutive NCAA Championships appearance and the sixth in program history, and are 8-6 all-time in the tournament. Cal's No. 3 seed is its highest in the championships since it was No. 2 in 2011 and lost in the national championship match. The Bears have advanced to at least the semifinals in every NCAA Championships in which they have participated.
BEARS POST HIGHEST CONFERENCE FINISH IN SEVEN YEARS
Cal finished in second place in the MPSF standings this season with a record of 4-1, its best conference finish since it also placed second back in 2011. The Bears' only loss in conference play came against eventual MPSF champion USC. Cal knocked off defending NCAA champion Stanford in triple-overtime during MPSF play and also snapped a 16-game losing streak to UCLA.Â
CAL LEADS ALL-MPSF HONORS WITH SEVEN
The Bears hauled in seven All-MPSF honors, most in the conference. Senior
Dora Antal became just the seventh player in history to become a four-time All-MPSF First Team selection, while fellow senior
Anna Illes also placed on the First Team. Senior
Carla Carrega earned Second Team honors while sophomore
Emma Wright and freshman
Kitty Lynn Joustra were recognized with honorable mention. Joustra and fellow freshman
Elli Protopapas were also named to the MPSF All-Newcomer Team.
ANTAL AND THE LEADERBOARDS
Senior
Dora Antal has had a record-breaking career at Cal. Earlier this season, she became the program's all-time leading scorer and has since moved into 11th place on the MPSF's all-time scoring list with 241. Antal needs four goals this weekend to move into the top-10. Antal is also the only three-time First Team All-American in program history and is a two-time Olympian for her native Hungary.

NUSI MOVES INTO CAL'S TOP-10
Senior Anna "Nusi" Illes has moved into a tie for seventh place on Cal's all-time scoring list with 159 career goals. The three-time All-American who was also a 2016 Olympian for Hungary has 30 goals this season and needs just one this weekend to move past Breda Vosters to stand alone at No. 7 all-time at Cal.
TAGG TEAM
Junior goalie
Madison Tagg took over for All-American Madelne Trabucco in the cage this season and has excelled, especially against MPSF opponents. Tagg ranked second among all MPSF goalies in goals-against average during conference matches at 5.40 and stopped 8.80 shots per game. Overall, she's third in goals-against at 6.0 allowed per contest. Tagg had a career-high 16 saves in a triple-overtime win over No. 1 Stanford and 12 in a 6-3 triumph against No. 6 Arizona State. Tagg currently ranks seventh on Cal's all-time saves list with 269 in her career.
GOING DUTCH
Freshman
Kitty Lynn Joustra, a member of The Netherlands National Team, has made an immediate impact on Cal's program. She ranks fourth on the team with 31 goals and was named to the MPSF All-Newcomer Team as well as earning All-MPSF Honorable Mention. Joustra had one of the most memorable games in program history on Mar. 4 when she scored the game-tying goal and the game-winning goal in sudden victory overtime to help the Bears knock off No. 1 Stanford. Cal teammate
Brigit Mulder also is a member of the Dutch National Team.
REACHING THE TOP
After its thrilling 8-7 triple-overtime win over Stanford on Mar. 4, the Bears moved into a tie for No. 1 with the Cardinal in the weekly CWPA rankings, their first No. 1 ranking in 18 years. Cal ended up spending three weeks at the top spot, tying with Stanford twice and sitting alone at No. 1 on Mar. 14. Cal's final ranking of No. 3 is its highest since 2011.
SPIEKER GETS A MAKEOVER
Spieker Aquatics Complex has a new look in 2018. The entire pool was replastered during the summer of 2017 and new bleachers were installed on both the upper and lower levels. A new scoreboard was also added, and all games will now be played directly in front of the new stands at the south end of the complex.
