Postgame Notes: California 29, No. 14 Louisville 26

  • The win marked the first time Cal has defeated a Top 15 team since a 20-19 win at No. 14 Washington on Sept. 7, 2019. 
  • The victory over No. 14 Louisville makes the Golden Bears bowl-eligible for the third straight season to mark their' longest streak of bowl-eligibility since eight straight seasons from 2002-09 (played in seven straight bowls from 2003-09). The Bears were bowl-eligible in 2002 but not selected for a bowl.
  • The Bears notched their first overtime victory since a 52-49 double-overtime win over Oregon on Oct. 22, 2016.
  • WR Jacob De Jesus tied the school record with 16 receptions, matching Geoff McArthur's 16 catches against Stanford in 2003. The catches and his 158 receiving yards were also career-highs.
  • QB Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele went 30-for-47 for 323 yards - all career-highs. He also threw two touchdowns. Sagapolutele has begun his collegiate career with 10 consecutive games of 200 or yards passing and is the only Power 4 and second FBS player to ever record at least 10 straight games of 200 yards or more passing to begin a collegiate career. Houston's David Piland began his career with 14 straight games of 200 or more yards passing spanning the 2010 and 2012 seasons (did not play in 2011).
  • DB Hezekiah Masses' had his fifth interception of the season. Masses came into tonight's game tied for second both in the ACC and nationally with four interceptions.
  • WR Cole Boscia had his first career reception for 20 yards.
  • DL Derek Wilkins recorded two pass-breakups to give him six for the season - the most by a Cal defensive lineman since Chris Palmer also had six in 2018.
  • Dru Polidore Jr. had a career-high 10 tackles. 
  • Chase Meyer made a career-high-tying three field goals on four attempts. Meyer also made three field goals twice while playing at Tulsa in 2023.
  • ILB Aaron Hampton and DL Derek Wilkins made their first collegiate starts, while OL Bastian Swinney started his first game of the season.
  • Cal extended its string of consecutive games with at least one sack to 22. The Golden Bears finished with two sacks.
  • Today's game was the first-ever meeting between Cal and Louisville.
