Biography
Cal Success:
- Closed his two-year Cal career in 2017-18 by earning All-America honors in the 100 fly, 200 IM (HM), 400 medley relay and 800 free relay.
- Scored 20 individual points for the Bears at the 2018 NCAA Championships with an eighth-place finish in the 100 fly and winning the B final of the 200 IM.
- Teamed with Daniel Carr, Andrew Seliskar and Justin Lynch to win the 400 medley relay at the 2018 Pac-12 Championships.
- Ended his Cal career ranked No. 5 on Cal's all-time list in the 100 fly (45.11), seventh in the 200 fly (1:41.41) and fourth in the 200 IM (1:41.66).Â
- Accomplished student earned Pac-12 All-Academic honors in 2018 and was Cal's nominee for Pac-12 Student-Athlete of the Year for men's swimming and diving.
- Joined the Bears for the 2016-17 season and made an immediate impact, earning his first career Pac-12 title with a win in the 100 butterfly.
- Played a key role on Cal's relays throughout the 2017 season and helped the Bears win a Pac-12 title in the 400 medley relay. Competed on the 200 free relay and 400 medley relay at the NCAA Championships.
- Competed individually in the 100 fly, 200 fly and 200 IM at the 2017 NCAA Championships.
- Won a gold medal in the 200Â mixed medley relay at the 2016 World Short Course Championships in Windsor, Canada. Also earned silver in the 400 medley relay and bronze in the 200 free relay.
- Enters senior season as an American record holder in the 400 short-course medley relay.
- Won gold in the 100-meter butterfly at the 2017 U.S. Open.
High School/Club/National Success:
- Qualified for the final of the 100 butterfly at the 2016 Olympic Trials. Was the fastest swimmer in the prelims with a time of 51.61 and finished sixth in the final.
- Redshirted the 2016 season at Queens to train for Olympic Trials.
- Helped Queens win its first-ever Division II NCAA Championship in 2015 and was named Swimmer of the Meet after setting NCAA D-II records in the 200 IM, 100 fly and 200 fly in addition to winning the 200 back.
- In 2015, won NCAA D-II titles in the 800 free relay, 200 IM, 200 fly, 200 backstroke and 100 fly. Also won conference titles in the 200 IM, 100 fly and 200 fly and was named the NCAA D-II Swimmer of the Year.
- In the summer of 2015 won silver in the medley relay at the World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea.
- Was a 2014 All-American in the 200 IM, 200 medley relay, 100 fly, 400 medley relay, 800 free relay, 200 back and 400 free relay. Won the Bluegrass Mountain Conference title in the 200 IM, 100 butterfly and 200 back as well as four relays.
- Named NCAA Breakout Swimmer of the Year in 2014 (all divisions).
- 2013 U.S. Open and U.S. National 18-under national champion in the 100 and 50 fly.
- Won bronze in the 100 fly at the 2013 Junior World Championships in Dubai.
- Took fourth in the 50 fly and seventh in the 100 fly at the 2014 Conoco Phillips National Championships.
- Was an 8-time National age group record holder and owned at one point between 10 and 15 North Carolina state records.
Personal
- Native of Charlotte, N.C.
- Accomplished student compiled a 4.5 GPA in high school and was a member of the Queens University Dean's List from 2013 through 2015 with a 3.9 GPA.
- Majored in Interdisciplinary Studies with an interest in later pursuing entrepreneurship or law.
