No. 11 Cal Repeats as Windermere Champ
March 28, 2004
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. -
For the second straight year, the Cal women's crew team dominated the field at the Windermere Crew Classic, winning all the races it entered at the weekend event.
The varsity eight proved that preseason rankings mean nothing once you're on the water by beating two top 10 teams in two days. On Saturday, the Golden Bears' first race of the regatta was a victory over No. 8 Michigan State by a boat length, followed by a win against a very good Cornell team. Today they capped it all off with a win over No. 7 Virginia, making them one of only a few undefeated teams at the regatta.
The second varsity eight also had wins against Michigan State and Cornell, along with a 17 second victory over Pac-10 rival Stanford in their last race of the weekend.
This week, the Bears will travel to San Diego for the 31st annual San Diego Crew Classic.
