Cal Sports Nutrition

It is the mission of Cal Sports Nutrition to provide every student athlete with top tier sports nutrition services utilizing current, evidence based resources to promote academic and athletic success at the University of California, Berkeley. Our program is dedicated to ensuring optimal energy intake, nutrient timing, and fluid balance while sustaining the overall well being of each athlete.

It is our purpose and goal to educate student athletes on the foundations of proper nutrition not only for athletic performance, but for success in the classroom and for life. It is the intent of this program to enhance health and performance of Cal Athletics and to provide these individuals with the best care possible.
 


Services for Student-Athletes

Private assessment of nutrition behaviors and intake with specific plans to:
  • Pre-workout Nutrition and Post-Workout Recovery Planning
  • Body composition management
  • Learn budget-friendly ideas and meal planning
  • Develop strategies for snacking and meal timing
  • Grocery Store Tours
  • Dining Hall Tours
  • Cooking Classes
  • Dietary Analysis 
  • Education for Special Diets (Vegetarian, Food Allergies, etc.)
  • Supplement Education and Monitoring

  • Consultation on nutrition-related concerns about student-athletes
  • Answer questions about nutrition
  • Team or small group nutrition education

  • Trainings or briefings for coaching staff on nutrition issues or topics
  • Body composition/weights consultation
  • Consultation for meals during traveling

Elizabeth McNear is a Registered Dietitian (RD) and Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) in her first year as a performance dietitian at Cal Athletics. She works closely with the athletes to develop healthy nutrition habits that improve sports performance and further nutrition knowledge. She has been working in the collegiate setting since 2014.

Education: Bachelor of Food Science and Human Nutrition, Colorado State University 2013. Dietetic Internship, Saint Louis University 2014. Master of Nutrition and Physical Performance, Saint Louis University 2015.

Of Note: Elizabeth is a member of Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitians Association (CPSDA) as well as the Sports Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutrition (SCAN) Dietetics Practice Group.  

Yasi Ansari

YASI ANSARI MS, RD, CSSD

Yasi Ansari is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD), currently working in her first year as Cal’s Assistant Director of Performance Nutrition. Yasi’s role involves helping athletes meet optimal health and performance goals through sound nutrition practices.

Yasi’s undergraduate degree was completed in Mass Communication Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and graduate degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with an emphasis in Nutrition and Dietetics from California State University, Northridge (CSUN).

Yasi’s previous sports nutrition experience includes working as a Sports Dietitian at California State University Long Beach, and as a Sports Dietitian and Clinical Nutrition Coordinator at UCLA Athletics. Yasi’s previous clinical nutrition experience includes working as a Clinical Dietitian at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, Hoag for Her Center for Wellness and Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Newport Beach and Irvine through Sodexo.
