TEMPE, Ariz. - No. 4-ranked California women's tennis junior Jana Juricova's 13-match singles winning streak claimed its eighth ranked opponent as the third-year Golden Bear defeated No. 17 Kelcy McKenna in three sets (6-0, 4-6, 7-5) for one of Cal's three points in a 4-3 loss to No. 31 Arizona State (9-3, 2-0 Pac-10) on Sat., Mar. 12, at the Whiteman Tennis Center. The Bears' record moves to 10-4 on the season with their third consecutive defeat.

Cal surrendered the doubles point for just the fourth time this season as Arizona State secured victories on all three courts. The Bears' sophomore tandem of Tayler Davis and Annie Goransson had its difficulties as Michelle Brycki and Jacqueline Cako gave the Sun Devils a leg up with an 8-1 win at court two. ASU's 46th-ranked team of Ashlee Brown and Sianna Simmons etched the first point into the books on an 8-1 win against junior Stephany Chang and freshman Anett Schutting.

In a hotly contested battle, Cal's fourth-ranked duo of senior Mari Andersson and Juricova had its 16-match winning streak halted by the No. 39-ranked team of Micaela Hein and McKenna at the top court, to give the Devils the three-court sweep.

Arizona State went ahead, 2-0, on No. 117 Brycki's 6-1, 6-3 win over Schutting at No. 5 singles, but the Bears responded to get on the board as senior Marina Cossou put Brown away, 6-3, 6-0, at court six. It was Cossou's first singles match in nearly a year.

At court two, No. 30-ranked Cako sealed off No. 41 Andersson to snap a 13-match winning streak with a 6-4, 6-2 win. Again, the Bears answered back when No. 62-ranked Goransson fought back from dropping her first set, 6-3, to win, 6-4, 6-4, over Hein at the third singles court.

The final two matches also went three sets. On court four, No. 38 Davis was edged, 7-5, in the first set by No. 108 James, but came back to win, 6-2, in the second. James stood fast to hold on for a 6-3 win in the third, and secured the fourth point for ASU. With the match decided, Juricova completed her three-set win over McKenna at the top court to make the final score, 4-3, for the Sun Devils.

The Bears look to snap their three-match losing streak as they host two home duals at the Hellman Tennis Complex this week. Cal will face Harvard for a 1:30 p.m. PT dual on Tue., Mar. 15, before it hosts Hawai'i on Thur., Mar. 17, at 1:30 p.m. Please visit CalBears.com for more information.
