BERKELEY - No. 46-ranked California women's tennis sophomore Tayler Davis posted her 30th singles victory of the year to help the seventh-ranked Golden Bears (16-5, 6-1 Pac-10) secure a 6-1 win over No. 71 Fresno State (5-12, 0-0 WAC) at the Hellman Tennis Complex on Sat., Apr. 9. Cal got its fourth straight victory when freshman Alice Duranteau posted a 6-0, 6-4 win over Mary Abby Haley at No. 6 singles.

Cal secured the doubles point for the 15th time this season as it swept all three courts. Davis and Duranteau got the Bears going with an 8-2 win over Mary Abby Hayley and Bianca Modoc at court three. Over at the top court, Cal's third-ranked team of senior Mari Andersson and junior Jana Juricova clinched the point with an 8-4 win over Marianne Jodoin and Laura Pola. With the first point decided, Cal completed the sweep on an 8-4 win by its 25th-ranked duo of sophomore Annie Goransson and freshman Anett Schutting over Olga Kirpicheva and Melissa McQueen at No. 2 doubles.

The Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead when senior Marina Cossou finished off Kirpicheva for a 6-4, 6-0 win at court five, and went ahead, 3-0, off of Davis' win at court four when she defeated Modoc, 6-0, 6-2. Duranteau's match-clinching victory at court six came next.

With the match decided, the Bears tacked on a fifth point on a 6-2, 6-2 win by Schutting as she defeated McQueen at court three. In one of the two longest matches of the day, No. 80-ranked Goransson took out Pola, 7-6, 6-4, at No. 2 singles to make the score, 6-0. After winning her first set, 7-5, No. 18-ranked Andersson surrendered the second, 6-3. In the match tiebreaker, Andersson fell behind, 7-3, but battled back to get within a point at 9-8 before No. 79-ranked Jodoin earned a winner to give the Bulldogs their only point.

The Bears complete the regular-season schedule as hosts of the Big Slam on Sat., Apr. 16, at the Hellman Tennis Complex. Cal and Stanford will renew their rivalry on Senior Day with a noon PT dual.
