Cal-Colorado Postgame Notes

With tonight's 79-65 California victory, Cal improved to 10-0 on the home court this season. The Golden Bears improved to 14-11 all-time against the Buffaloes, including an 11-0 record all-time in Berkeley.

In Pac-12 openers, Cal improved to 8-3 in the last 11 conference openers and the Bears have won their last three in a row.

The Bears opened the game on a 10-0 run, holding Colorado scoreless through the game's first six and a half minutes. Later in the opening half with Cal leading, 18-12, the Bears went on a 14-2 run capped by an and-1 by Jordan Mathews.

Cal entered the game outscoring its opponents in home games by an average of 79.3 ppg to 60.1 ppg and won by 14 tonight. The Bears had also accumulated a +14.0 rebounding margin and outrebounded the Buffaloes, 39-38. Cal had also held opponents to shoot just 35.1 percent from the floor at Haas Pavilion. Colorado shot 32.0 percent tonight.

Four Bears hit double figures in scoring, led by 22 points by Mathews (which tied his season best), while Jaylen Brown added 17, Tyrone Wallace notched 16, and Kingsley Okoroh registered a career high 10 points. He entered the game having scored just five points all season.  

Mathews has scored in double figures in eight consecutive games and 12 times total this season. He notched 16 of his 22 points in the second half. With his five treys tonight, which were one shy of his career high in a single game, Mathews has now connected on multiple three-pointers in his last six games and 10 in his last two. He connected on all of his treys in the second half, and has now made 20 treys in his last five games.

Brown's 17 points marked his sixth consecutive double-figure effort. Finishing 11 rebounds, he garnered his third double-double of the season.

Wallace moved up to the 13th on Cal's career scoring list, now with 1,414 career points. He passed Rickey Hawthorne (1973-76) who had 1,413 points. Russ Critchfield (1966-68) is 12th with 1,437 points.  

Entering the contest with 71 blocks this season, the Bears notched seven against Colorado, led by four by Okoroh, tying his career high. He has now recorded eight blocks in his last two games.
