TUCSON, ARIZ --- No. 18 California women's soccer ended its regular season road schedule in defeat, dropping a 2-1 double overtime result to the Arizona Wildcats on Sunday afternoon at Mulcahy Stadium.
Arizona's Cali Crisler scored the game-winner for the home Wildcats in the 109th minute of the match, putting home a clearance that could not exit the six yard box.
Cal (13-4-2, 6-2-2 Pac-12) allowed Arizona (8-9-1, 3-7-0 Pac-12) to strike first in the early moments of the first half. The Wildcats' Gabi Stoain capitalized on a second-minute Bears turnover in its own defensive third, converting the giveaway into a score from just inside the 18-yard box and off the outstretched hands of junior
Emily Boyd.
As they have done time and time again this season, the Bears would respond before the period ended. In the 30th minute, Cal's trademark pressure in its offensive third led to a handball foul by Arizona and a successful penalty kick from redshirt junior
Kelly Fitzgerald - her fifth of the season.  Â
Boyd played a significant role in the Bears staying close, setting a new career high with 12 saves in the contest. The performance edges her recently set career best of 11 from the October 6 match at UCLA. Her efforts kept Cal in the running throughout the match until the decisive goal slipped through.
Despite Boyd's efforts, the Bears were outshot 30-9, its biggest deficit of the season.
