Cal-UCLA Postgame Notes
With California's 75-63 win over UCLA, the Golden Bears improved to 17-0 at Haas Pavilion this season, and are enjoying an 18-game home winning streak dating back to last season. The home winning streak ranks second longest in school history.
Cal improved to 8-0 on the home court in Pac-12 play this season. The last time the Bears enjoyed an eight-game home conference winning streak was when Cal won 12 home Pac-12 games with five at the end of the 2001-02 campaign and the first seven of the 2002-03 season. The last time the Bears won eight or more consecutive home conference games in a single season was the 1959-60 season when Cal won nine home conference games.
Four Bears reached double figures in scoring, led by Jabari Bird's 20. Jaylen Brown finished with 16, Tyrone Wallace with 14 and Ivan Rabb with 10. It was the 19th time this season that the Bears have had at least four players reach double figures in scoring.
Today was Bird's 10th game this season of making at least three treys, his fourth making four and his second making five, one short of his career high of six. In his last six games he has shot 20-for-33 from behind the arc. Today marked his seventh career 20-point performance.
Wallace, with his 14 points today, now has 1,550 career points, which ranks 10th on Cal's career scoring list. Brian Hendrick (1990-93) is ninth with 1,556. With his 10 rebounds, Wallace recorded his ninth career double-double, and his second this season.
Brown notched his fourth double-double of the season after recording 10 rebounds, one shy of his season high, along with his 16 points.
With one three-pointer today, Jordan Mathews' 183 career three-pointers rank tied for fourth on the school's career list with Richard Midgley (183, 2003-06).
Cal opened up the contest scoring 13 of the game's first 14 points in the first four minutes. Eight of those Cal points were scored by Jaylen Brown who nailed two treys in that span. Cal held its largest lead of 12 twice in the half, while UCLA cut the deficit down to five on two occasions before the Bears took a seven-point lead into halftime. In the second half, Cal never trailed and led by as many as 15.
With Cal's win, UCLA now leads the all-time series, 136-103. The Bears have won five of the last six meetings at Haas Pavilion.
Today's attendance was 11,858, a sellout crowd
