Cal-Stanford Postgame Notes
With today's California 76-61 win over Stanford, the Golden Bears improved to 14-0 at Haas Pavilion this season, and are enjoying a 15-game home winning streak dating back to last season. The current home winning streak ranks tied for fifth in school history. Cal also improved to 5-0 on the home court in conference play this season.
Five Bears finished in double figures – Jordan Mathews (18), Jaylen Brown (16), Jabari Bird (13), Kameron Rooks (11) and Ivan Rabb (10).
The Bears improved to 147-119 in the all-time series against Stanford, and they also snapped a four-game losing streak against the Cardinal.
Entering today's game, Cal held significant advantages in scoring (+15.8 ppg), rebounding (+10.5 rpg) and had held opponents to just 36.3 percent shooting from the floor in games played at Haas. Today, Cal beat Stanford by 15 points, outrebounded the Cardinal by 16 and held Stanford to shoot 38.2 percent from the field.
With 18 points, Mathews increased his career total to 1,053, which moved him up to 40th place on Cal's all-time list. Amit Tamir (2002-04) is 39th with 1,055 points and Larry Friend (1955-57) is 38th with 1,061. Shooting 4-for-6 from three-point distance, it was the sixth time this season that Mathews has made at least four three-pointers in a game.
Kameron Rooks notched a career-high 11 points. He also pulled down a career-best 12 rebounds for the second game in a row, good for his first career double-double. This was his fourth straight game with at least seven boards.
Sam Singer tallied a personal-best nine assists.
After Stanford opened the game on a 6-0 run, Cal followed that with a 17-4 run capped by back-to-back treys by Bird.
Cal's 41 points in the first half were the most in conference play this season. The last time Cal reached 40 points in the first half was Dec. 28 vs. Davidson (47).
Today's game marked the annual Pete Newell Classic.
