Bears Will Honor Seniors Moore, Sakkas In Pre-Game Ceremony

California field hockey concludes its regular season this Sunday, Oct. 28, when the Golden Bears host the Pacific Tigers at Underhill Field. Game time is set for 2 p.m., with a special pre-match ceremony to honor seniors Janaye Sakkas and Melina Moore.

The Bears look to improve their chances at a No. 2 seed in the West Division heading into next week's America East Championships, held at Stanford from Nov. 1-4. Cal currently owns a 2-3 record in conference play.

NEED TO KNOW


• Both Melina Moore and Janaye Sakkas have appeared in every game of their Cal career - 69 games total. 

• Together, Moore and Sakkas have helped the Bears amass 28 wins while combining for 45 goals, 14 assists and 104 points.

• Cal has two home losses this season -- both to ranked opponents (No. 4 Maryland, 5-0; No. 21 Stanford, 3-2)

• After jumping into the all-time top 10 in goals scored, both Melina Moore and Megan Rodgers are on the cusp of breaking into the career records for points. Rodgers has 66 and Moore has 63. Each needs 70 points.

• Femke Delissen is three assists away from tying the career top 10. She has 14 assists in her three-year career.
 

SCOUTING THE TIGERS

• Last Meeting: Pacific took at 2-1 win over the Bears in Stockton on Sept. 30.
• Series: Cal leads, 73-25
• Notable: Cal has split its regular-season series with Pacific each of the last five seasons except for 2016, when the Tyges swept the Bears.
• Kriekie van Wyk leads UOP with 32 points on a team-high 15 goals plus 2 assists.
• Rylee Comeau is second with 18 points on 7 goals and 4 assists.
• Gaby de Kock paces Pacific in assists with 8, and Taylor Dempsey is second with 5.
• 12 Tiger players have scored goals this season.
• Marlise van Tonder has started all 16 games in the cage, allowing 27 goals with 75 saves for a 1.65 goals against average. She has four shutouts.
• Comeau and Ash Rutherford scored against the Bears in the first meeting this season. Megan Rodgers scored Cal's lone goal.
 

ON THE RECORD(S)

Several of California's student-athletes have continued their ascent in the program record books this season, notching single-season and career-high totals.

Senior Melina Moore and sophomore Megan Rodgers jumped into Cal's all-time Top 10 in goals scored in the same game, each notching their 26th career goals against Boston College to tie Melissa Nerone and Shellie Onstead. 

The duo is also nearing the top 10 in career points scored. Andrea Earle (2010-15) and Onstead (1981-82) currently own No. 10  in all-time points with 70 apiece, while Rodgers and Moore are approaching with 66 and 63, respectively.

Rodgers has also made her mark in a number of single-season categories, nearing the top 10 for points and goals.

Junior Femke Delissen nears the program's career top 10 in assists. She has 14 assists in her three years with the Bears, and will tie Lara Kruggel (2011-15), Teela Crosthwaite (2002-05) and Natalie Nurnberg (2006-09) at 10th with three more assists.
