BERKELEY - Jasie Dunk posted her first clinching victory of her Cal career when she defeated Nnena Nadozie at court-five singles in the No. 13 Golden Bears' 5-2 win over San Diego State on Thursday afternoon at the Hellman Tennis Complex. The freshman won, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0.

Dunk's win gave Cal a 4-1 lead. Cal sophomore Alexis Nelson lost, 6-4, 6-3, to SDSU's Jenny Moinard on court four, and then junior Maria Smith followed with a 6-2, 6-7(6), 1-0(4) win over Paola Diaz on court three to make the final score 5-2.

Earlier, Cal's 27th-ranked Anna Bright made quick work of Buth, winning 6-1, 6-1, on court 1. Fellow freshman Bear Julia Rosenqvist knocked off Magda Aubets, 6-0, 6-2, on court 1.
 
In doubles, the pair of Smith and freshman Vivian Glozman beat Diaz and Jana Buth, 6-2, to clinch the point.
 
The Bears handed the Aztecs (3-1) their first loss of the season. Cal improved to 2-1 after falling in its last match to then-No. 12 Texas in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend final last Saturday at Hellman.
 
"It was good to get back out there on the courts," Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said. "We mixed up the doubles combinations, and different people had the opportunity to play today, so that was good. We did what we needed to do. In some instances I thought we could've maintained control of our match a little better, but you need to see this stuff now. It gives you something to work on.
 
"San Diego State competed hard. They're a good team. They come here to battle, and that's why we like to play them – we like to get better."
 
Cal next plays Santa Clara on Saturday at noon at Hellman.
