PULLMAN, Wash. – California rallied from a 1-0 deficit to claim an important Pac-12 Conference victory in the state of Washington, as the 45th-ranked Golden Bears upset No. 37 Washington State, 4-3, on Saturday at the Hollingbery Fieldhouse. The 38th-ranked Olivia Hauger beat Guzal Yusupova, 6-4, 7-6(4) to clinch the victory at court-two singles.

Cal improved to 11-7 overall and to 6-3 in the Pac-12 with one conference match left before the Pac-12 tournament. The Cougars are now 20-5 and 5-4 in the conference. At the moment, the Bears would be seeded fourth in the Pac-12 Championship, with WSU fifth.

Rain moved Saturday's match from WSU's outdoor courts to their indoor facility and pushed back the start from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

For the second straight day, the Bears lost the doubles point, as the Cougars clinched when Melissa Ates and Barbora Michalkova upset the 36th-ranked Hauger and freshman Julia Rosenqvist, 6-3, on court one.

Cal also dropped the doubles point on Friday at Washington and tried to spur a comeback in singles before falling 5-2.

But this time the Golden Bears rallied in singles to pull out a victory. The 36th-ranked Anna Bright (on court 3), the 40th-ranked Rosenqvist (court 1) and junior Maria Smith (court 4) all posted 6-2, 6-2 wins to give Cal a 3-1 lead before Hauger – the reigning Pac-12 Player of the Week – secured the match.

Hauger gave Cal a 4-1 lead, with a court-six loss by freshman Hana Mraz and a court-five loss from freshman and Bellevue, Washington, native Vivian Glozman rounding out the day.

"We're pleased to get another conference win and especially a conference win on the road," Cal head coach Amanda Augustus said. "This was only our second indoor match of the season, which is a little unusual. At some point it looked like we'd play outside, but as has been the case at various times throughout this season, the rain got the better of us.

"We made adjustments from yesterday to today and played much more solid overall in singles. Washington State only has four indoor courts, so the Bears that played the first four matches did a good job today. Winning in straight sets on four courts was good to see.

"Washington State competed very hard. They've been having a good season. This match was a good test for us, and we responded well. We'll head back to Berkeley and get ready for our final regular-season conference match next week with Stanford."

Cal next plays at No. 22 Stanford in the Big Slam on April 20 at 11 a.m., with the Pac-12 Networks televising the match.
