BERKELEY – Schematic design has begun on the construction of a new facility for the Cal beach volleyball program, with construction anticipated to begin next spring.

The proposed facility will be located on the Clark Kerr campus near the corner of Sports Lane and Dwight Way. The project would convert an existing softball field into four sand volleyball courts.

The project requires formal approval, which is anticipated in the winter after environmental documentation is complete.

To maintain compliance with Title IX policies that require equitable facilities for both male and female student-athletes, the facility will also include amenities such as restrooms, locker rooms and upgraded lights, among others.

The Cal beach volleyball team currently plays its home matches on two courts on the Clark Kerr sand courts, with extremely limited amenities and infrastructure.
