SAN JOSE, Calif. – Sixth-ranked California scored twice and held San Jose State scoreless in six minutes of overtime action to earn a 10-8 road victory at the SRAC on Saturday afternoon.

Nikos Delagrammatikas broke an 8-8 tie halfway through the first overtime period with his second goal of the match and was followed by an insurance goal by Jasmin Kolasinac in the second overtime frame. Adrian Weinberg, who posted a 12-save performance in goal, made three of those saves in overtime to stunt the Spartans.

The Bears (10-5) never trailed, but withstood numerous rallies by the host Spartans (3-10) that led to four different ties throughout the match. It was Cal's second win over San Jose State this season; the Bears outlasted the Spartans in similar fashion on Sept. 21 at the Aggie Roundup with a 13-11 overtime victory.

Safak Simsek scored his first of a match-high four goals with 5:46 remaining in the first quarter. Jack Deely and Garrett Dunn both found the back of the net in the same period to give Cal a 3-1 lead through eight minutes played. Simsek later closed the second and third quarters with goals as Cal led 5-3 at halftime and 8-6 entering the fourth period.

San Jose State's final rally of the match was capped by a game-tying goal from Adam Bado with 18 seconds left in regulation to make it an 8-8 contest. The Bears were held without a goal in the fourth quarter before they closed the match with six impressive minutes played in overtime.

EVERIST'S TAKE
"This was a game of small runs for both teams," said head coach Kirk Everist. "We got the last one, which proved to make the difference. We had a number of opportunities that we didn't finish and we need to be quicker on defense. We had to play too much man-down defense today."
