Maddie Haynes and junior
Mima Mirkovic each recorded 12 kills, but it wasn't enough for No. 20 California in a 25-20, 21-25, 25-27, 19-25 defeat against Oregon Friday night at Haas Pavilion.
The Bears (17-4, 7-4 Pac-12) jumped out to an early lead in the match, taking the first set on .444 hitting behind a scoring run late in the frame. Cal led 16-15, before running off five straight points to take a 21-15 lead, capped off by back-to-back-service aces from
Maddie Haynes.
Tied 1-1 in the match, the third set went to extra points, but the Ducks got back-to-back kills from Karson Bacon and Ronika Stone to take the set 27-25. Oregon jumped out to an early lead in the fourth, and the Bears weren't able to sustain enough offense to get back into it as the Ducks closed out the match.
Junior
Preslie Anderson added 11 kills for the Bears, while sophomore
Lauren Forte and senior
Bailee Huizenga each added nine. Oregon (7-13, 3-8 Pac-12) got a match-high 17 kills from Ronika Stone.
Up Next: The Bears return to action on Saturday night with a 7 p.m. first serve inside Haas Pavilion against Oregon State.
