Ready For Florida
Eight Golden Bears To Race At Under-23 World Rowing Championships
SARASOTA, Fla. – Eight representatives from the Cal men's rowing team will be descending on Sarasota, Florida, gearing up to compete at the Under-23 World Rowing Championships at Nathan Benderson Park.
Will Creedon,
George Finlayson,
Ollie Maclean,
Olav Molenaar,
Jack Robertson,
Hugo van De Graaf,
Brett Vilk and incoming Golden Bear Angus Dawson will be competing for their respective countries as the competition runs from July 24-28.
The full schedule of racing, as well as line-ups and watch information, can be found at
WorldRowing.com. Racing begins on Wednesday with heats, while the finals are slated for Sunday. USRowing Productions will stream all five days of racing live on ESPN3, available on the ESPN app.
Five members of the Cal contingent will be competing in the eight, looking to help their countries take home hardware. Creedon, a rising senior from Denver, will be racing in the United States' eight, after competing in the U.S. Under-23 eight at the World Rowing Cup III earlier in the month and finishing seventh overall. Â Vilk, another rising senior, will be racing in the Canadian eight. The Grimsby, Canada, native placed fifth in this event at the 2018 Under-23 World Rowing Championships, in a boat that also included Cal teammate
Elliot Rogers. A rising sophomore, Molenaar will be racing in the Netherlands' eight after helping Cal's second varsity eight capture the Kennedy Cup at the 2019 IRA National Championship Regatta. Rising juniors Finlayson and Robertson will be racing together in the Australian eight. Robertson helped the Bears' second varsity eight take silver at the 2019 Pac-12 Championships, while Finlayson spent much of the season in the varsity eight before winning gold in the 2V8+ at IRAs.
After racing in the Bears' varsity eight at IRAs, Maclean will now be competing for his native New Zealand in the double sculls. An Auckland native, Maclean finished fifth in the quad sculls at the 2016 World Rowing Junior Championships.
Van De Graaf, a rising junior, will be competing for Switzerland in the coxless four; he helped Cal's third varsity eight achieve a fifth-place finish at IRAs earlier this summer.
Dawson, an incoming freshman from the Adelaide Rowing Club, rounds out the Cal contingent and will be racing for Australia in the coxed four.
