Late Homers Not Enough In Loss At No. 10 FSU
Bears Fall Behind Early, Drop Game 2 In Tallahassee, 7-4
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –
Dylan Beavers and
Rodney Green Jr. homered in the sixth and ninth innings but it was too little too late as California dropped game two, 7-4, and the series against No. 10 Florida State at Dick Howser Stadium.
The Seminoles (7-3) jumped out to a 3-0 lead by the end of the second inning and extended it to six runs at 7-1 by the sixth frame.
Steven Zobac struck out a career-high seven batters but took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits in 4.0 innings pitched.
A solo home run by Beavers got Cal (5-5) on the board in the sixth.
Nathan Martorella's sacrifice fly in the eighth made it a 7-2 contest before Green Jr. ripped his second home run of the season in the ninth to make it just a three-run deficit.
Tucker Bougie, making his career debut, struck out three Seminoles in 1.1 innings pitched and
Vaughn Mauterer tossed a scoreless eighth.
