Cal Completes Dominant Weekend At Navy Open
ANNAPOLIS, MD. – Freshman
Marton Szatmary tallied 15 points – including a hat trick in each game - and the No. 1 Cal men's water polo team completed a dominant season-opening weekend with two more lopsided victories at the Navy Open on Sunday.
Szatmary had three goals and five assists during a 22-7 win over No. 11 Princeton then added another trio of scores along with four assists as the Bears (4-0) rolled past host Navy 24-8. Szatmary had hat tricks in three of the four games Cal played over the weekend and finished with 11 goals and 13 assists overall for the tournament.
Senior
Joe Molina scored four goals in the victory over Navy and had six on the day to go along with four assists. Sophomore
Jake Howerton added five goals over both games while adding three assists and two steals in the victory over Navy.
The 22 goals are the most Princeton has allowed in a game since 2019.
The Bears play their home opener Friday night against No. 5 Pacific at 5 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics Complex. They will follow with home games Saturday (vs. No. 13 UC San Diego, 10 a.m.) and Sunday (vs. No. 10 Pepperdine, 1 p.m.).
