Contest Is Part Of Pac-12/SWAC Legacy Series

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The California women's basketball team looks to finish its East Coast road trip with another win as it faces Florida A&M on Monday at 1 p.m. PT. The matchup is part of the Pac-12/SWAC Legacy Series, a partnership between the two conferences aimed at creating both a forum for competition, as well as promotion and education around issues of anti-racism and social justice.
 
The programs' sole meeting took place last year and the Golden Bears came away with a wire-to-wire 88-58 win at Haas Pavilion.
 
Florida A&M is in its first season under head coach Bridgette Gordon. The Rattlers return five players and feature 10 newcomers, and are led by Ahriahna Grizzle, who was named to the All-Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Preseason Second Team.
 
Monday's game will air on ESPN+ with Brian Duval and Van Chancellor on the call.

    • Michelle Onyiah had a career-high 19 rebounds to go along with three blocks. The single-game total leads the Pac-12 this season and ranks second among Power 5 players.

  • Early Pac-12 leaders: Suárez's nine 3-pointers leads all forwards (fifth overall); Macintosh's 23 assists rank second; Kemery Martin has seven blocks which rank fifth; Williams' 29 rebounds is tied for third among guards; McIntosh and Mia Mastrov's eight steals rank 10th. 
  • Returners McIntosh and Martín received 2023-24 All-Pac-12 preseason honorable mention.
  • The Bears welcome six newcomers to the team: freshmen guards Anastasia Drosouni (Greece) and Lulu Twidale (Australia), junior forward Marta Suárez from Tennessee, senior forward McKayla Williams from Gonzaga and graduate transfers Ila Lane from UCSB and Ioanna Krimili from the University of San Francisco.
  • Martín ended the 2022-23 season tied for the team lead with 59 made 3-pointers, which ranked eighth in the Pac-12 and were good for seventh on Cal's all-time single-season list.
  • Lane was named to this year's Lisa Leslie Award preseason watch list for the third time in her career. The annual award is given to the country's top center.
  • Krimili joins the Bears as one of the top 3-point shooters in the country. Last year she ranked 30th in the nation with 84 made 3-pointers while shooting at a 39.4 percent clip.
  • The Bears are coming off an incredibly competitive 13-17 season in which they played the second-most-ranked opponents (16) in the country. In nine of those 16 games, Cal had a lead or was within single digits with under five minutes left in the game.
 
NEXT UP
Cal returns home to host the Raising The B.A.R. Invitational which takes place Friday and Saturday at Haas Pavilion. The Bears will face San Jose State in the first game of the tournament.
